Raindance Organic Farm offers this project as a way to connect adults & kids, grandparents & friends with their food, with organic farming, and with each other.

Each year our farm plants and tends 80+ certified organic vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers for the summer season.

You can join the Community Farm Project as a Member, investing in the farm in exchange for a share of what we grow. Each week in summer, visit our organic farm to harvest your share and take it home!

Put on your boots and collect the freshest possible, certified organic produce each week. Cut a bouquet of flowers for your table. Soak up the beauty of nature in solitude or with your loved ones. Give your kids shovels so they can hunt for purple potatoes while you take a deep breath. Crunch a cucumber straight from the vine under the big blue sky.

What is the Community Farm Project?

Member-harvested. Bring a basket and snippers to harvest your share of organic goodness each week during our summer season. The food you harvest at our farm is literally the freshest food available— straight from the plant to your kitchen.

Certified organic produce & flowers. Our crop plan includes 80+ certified organic vegetables, herbs, fruits, and flowers. The farm offers you 8-10 items for harvesting each week, and often includes choices.

A diverse, welcoming community. Being human in the modern age can be lonely, but real human connection lifts us up. It is our great hope to bring a community together around sustainable agriculture— for ourselves and for our children. The farm seeks to be a welcoming space or everyone.

Weekly time on the farm. If you’re in need of some nature therapy, you can swing in a hammock, enjoy a picnic, and talk all things life, family, work, and ideas during the Project’s open harvest hours on Tuesday mornings & Saturday mornings.

Financial support. Each spring Community Farm Project members invest in the farm’s economy in exchange for a weekly share of organic vegetables and flowers from the farm. The commitment is $450 for the season. You can pay in full or make a $150 deposit and pay over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What about weeks that I am out of town?

If you are out of town and miss a harvest day, please feel free to come on the other harvest day that week (ie. if you miss Saturday, just come on Tuesday). If you have plans to be out-of-town many weeks, we encourage you to purchase a share together with a friend so they can come to harvest when you cannot. You are always welcome to send a friend in your place!

How much produce will we harvest and bring home each week?

The crop plan we've designed aims to share 8 different items, usually including a bouquet of cut flowers, for harvest each week. If your family doesn't enjoy vegetable x, you're always welcome to pass over that item. If you’d like to see the complete list of what we plan to grow this season, please check out our What We Grow page. When the farm has an abundance of something, we sometimes offer bonus items too.

Can I spread out the financial commitment?

Yes! We offer a payment plan. Deposit $150 now to reserve your spot, and choose your own schedule to pay for the rest of your Project share by June 30th. Members choosing the payment plan are responsible to track their own payments and bring their balance to $0 by June 30th. Please add the "2022 Community Farm Project Share" to your cart on our website and use the code “PLAN” at checkout to make your deposit of $150. We will send you an email with a link on March 1st that you can use to make additional payments in any $25 increment you choose between now and June 30th.

Do you have any more details to share on things like vacations, parking, weather, potable water, and restrooms?

All members agree to read and sign our 2022 Member Agreement before their first visit to the farm in June. We created this document to keep all of our visitors safe and to protect the farm itself so it can serve our community long into the future. In two pages it lays out all of the important details we need to share to make the farm a safe & joyful space for everyone. You can find this season’s Project Agreement here.

How does the COVID-19 public health crisis affect the Community Farm Project in 2022?

Promoting wellness and public health is a primary mission of the farm, and our deepest wish is for the farm to be a safe space where everyone’s needs are met. We are very pleased to be able to offer an outdoor activity for families and individuals that is relatively safe due to excellent ventilation and plenty of room for social distancing. All staff on the farm are fully vaccinated and we follow the recommendations of the Washtenaw County Health Department, Michigan Health & Human Services and the CDC.

We know that nutritious food is essential, and we also know that mental health has been suffering during this long pandemic. Our deepest wish is that everyone who comes to the farm this season is safe and receives what they need from the farm— whether that is good conversation and human connection, a walk alone through the fields, a cheerful weekly bouquet of flowers, or a chance for children to meet butterflies and earthworms.
